Like the elementary program, Core Knowledge units of study in junior high build on what students learned in earlier grades. When seventh grade students learn about the Russian Revolution, they will be able to refer to their study of Russia's early growth and expansion in the fifth grade. Eighth grade algebra follows seventh grade pre-algebra; fourth grade study of atoms, matter, and elements will build toward seventh grade study of atomic structure and chemical bonds and reactions.

Many parents whose children aspire toward the District's Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate programs will find that Core Knowledge is a logical course of study in the early grades. These elements are embedded in the district curriculum and are implemented at all five junior high schools.
