HEB ISD "Recognized" Again By TEA

HEB ISD has received 2009 district and campus ratings, which are based on spring 2009 TAKS testing, and the district received a "Recognized" rating from the Texas Education Agency, for the second year in a row. This is the state's second highest rating.

"We are extremely pleased with our performance, and we are celebrating not only a great district rating, but outstanding campus ratings," Dr. Gene Buinger, superintendent of schools, said. "All of this is a reflection of the collaboration of our teachers, campus administrators, and central office curriculum coordinators."

The number of "Exemplary" campuses goes up from eight to 11.

Ratings are based on student performance on state TAKS tests, dropout rates, and high school completion rates. The TAKS is given to students in grades 3-11 and covers English language arts/reading, writing, mathematics, science and social studies. The subjects tested vary at each grade level.

The state evaluates test results for the following student groups: African American, Hispanic, white, economically disadvantaged, and total student body. The scores of each student group count toward the campus rating.
